I'd love to meet you!
I offer a complimentary consultation where we meet informally and chat about what exactly a doula does. I answer any questions you or your partner may have; as well, it gives us a chance to get to know one another a little so you can decide if we are a good fit. This meeting usually takes place at a coffee shop or other centrally located place between us. I am also open to coming to your home if you prefer it to be more private or to make it easier if you have little ones.
COVID-19 UPDATE: I'm providing consults via phone, Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom and booking doula clients into September 2020 onwards. Please email or call to set up an appointment.
Customized to your specific needs
After our initial consultation, if you select me as your doula, we would have 2 more prenatal visits.
During the first visit we talk in depth about what you would like your birth experience to be like and what your birth preferences are so I know how to best support you. We would address any concerns or fears that may come up and discuss your expectations of my role as your doula. I can also direct you to any information you may need to help you make informed decisions along the way. If you are having a hospital birth, you will be well informed about what to expect while you are there by the end of our visit. And if you are planning a home birth I can help you by reviewing the logistics around how that might look.
During the second prenatal visit (approximately 3-4 weeks before your due date) we prepare for the big day by discussing, in detail, the various ways to stay calm, confident and relaxed to enable you to have the birth experience you envision. I’ll give you and your birth partner many practical tips to help you through every phase of your labour as well as reviewing the different positions and comfort measures that we can use. I will help you understand how the natural birth process can play out and how fear factors into it all, helping to calm any fears you may have at the same time. We also discuss breastfeeding and the postpartum period and I will share with you some practical tips on how to make your transition into motherhood easy and peaceful.
These two visits would take place in the comfort of your own home if that works for you.
COVID-19 UPDATE: These prenatal visits can be done remotely via Zoom or alternate platform or in person with appropriate PPE & social distancing as long as those restrictions are in place.
Reiki and/or Hypnosis Fear Clearing
Mind & Body Balancing
At an optional third prenatal appointment I will offer you a complimentary Reiki session or a hypnosis fear clearing session at no extra charge. I can also guide you through some Spinning Babies pelvic floor and body balancing techniques to encourage your baby into the optimal position for birth. This appointment can be scheduled any time in the last few weeks of your pregnancy (preferably during a weekday) and I would ask that you come to my home in Beaumont for this visit.
I can also offer a shorter Reiki treatment for you and your baby at our postpartum visit.
COVID-19 UPDATE: Reiki can be sent via distance without you having to come to my home. Alternately, we can do this Reiki session once social distancing guidelines are lifted (even if it is after you have your baby).
I'm Here for YOU!
Prenatally and on the big day
From our initial meeting all the way through your pregnancy and birth, I take the time to get to know you, your concerns and your needs. I’m always available to contact by phone/email throughout and will provide everything you require to make sure your experience is as calm and positive as possible. Though I am available anytime, my official 24/7 on call period starts two weeks before your due date and continues until 2 weeks after your baby is born. Rest assured, if your baby decides to come early, you will still have doula support.
I am a reliable resource for you throughout your pregnancy and will send you evidence based information on various topics related to pregnancy, labour, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, and baby care for you to have at your fingertips. As well, I am always available to answer any questions that come up or will refer you to the appropriate professional who can help you.
I attend births in all Edmonton and area hospitals, the lovely Lucina Birth Center or your home along with your chosen midwife or doctor.
I will stay with you throughout your labour and the birth of your child from the time you request my presence until about an hour or two after the baby is born to help you get settled and to assist you with breastfeeding if needed.
I will provide you with a brief written timeline of the birth (if you are opting out of the Birth Story add-on listed below).
If not choosing the Birth Photography add-on below, I can take pictures with your camera throughout your labour if you would like me to, capturing the story of your birth in pictures and those precious moments after your baby is born. I have a silent love of photography and clients are always grateful for the pictures I’ve taken that they would not have had otherwise.
I will come and see you and your little miracle for a postpartum visit once you’re settled in at home. You call me when you’re ready. This is when we review your birth experience and my role as your doula. I will answer any questions you have and fill in any missing pieces. If needed, I am able to help you with breastfeeding or anything else you need as well. If you'd like, I can also offer a short Reiki treatment to you and your baby. Babies are very open and receptive to Reiki energy so the treatment doesn't have to be long and they very much enjoy the soothing comfort it brings, as will you! This visit is catered to your specific needs and I'm happy to simply snuggle your baby while you take a shower or have a much needed nap.
COVID-19 UPDATE: We would do this remotely or in person with appropriate PPE & social distancing or we could wait until social distancing guidelines are lifted. I would still be available via phone, text, and email to answer questions and help as needed.

Birth photography is becoming more and more popular these days and couples can spend hundreds of dollars on that wonderful service. I don’t claim to be a professional photographer, but I have a DSLR camera and I know my way around it. I really enjoy capturing the emotions and story of the birth and all who are involved if I am able. Of course my first priority is to be your doula but I am usually able to snap some great pictures along the way. If photos are super important to you, and you can afford to hire a professional, then please do! I'm happy to pass along names of some great birth photographers in the area. If, however, you’re just hoping for some pretty great shots and to possibly have the story of your birth captured in pictures, then I’m your gal. All images will be provided to you digitally. Check out my Birth Photography page to see some of my work. If you are opting for the birth photography add on and I am unable to take pictures, you will receive a full refund for the service.
A very detailed, written account of the birth (from the time leading up to when birthing began all the way through to the immediate postpartum). Depending on how long the labour is, the birth story is usually anywhere from 2 – 5 pages long. I pour my heart and soul into my writing and it is a cherished keepsake you will look back on fondly.
Birth Pool Rental
As my doula client, if you are interested in a water birth, you will have the use my birth pool. The $100 fee covers everything (all supplies, set-up & clean up). For additional information see my Water Birth page. If you are renting my pool and we are unable to use it (ie. I don’t even set it up and the supplies remain unused), you will receive a full refund for the service.
No extra charge
TENS (trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) has been used very successfully for non-medical pain relief in labour. When we experience pain, messages are sent along the nerves to the brain and then pain is felt. The TENS unit produces tiny electrical impulses which are sent through the skin to the nerves. This electrical stimulation of the nerves blocks those pain messages from reaching the brain. The brain then registers the tingling sensation produced by the TENS unit rather than the pain. TENS also increases your body’s production of endorphins – these are your body’s natural painkillers. As a doula client, you have access to my Elle TENS machine for free.
Birth Ball & Peanut Ball
No extra charge
I always carry my big birth ball with me and it is used a lot during labour for comfort and different positions. I also have a peanut ball to utilize when you are resting in various positions to help keep your pelvis open and encourage a faster birth.
No extra charge
I carry a selection of high quality essential oils in my birth bag and they often come out at a birth. The use of essential oils during labour has many benefits. Imagine inhaling a calming lavender scent to help you relax, or an uplifting citrus scent for rejuvenation. Perhaps some peppermint oil will help control any nausea that is experienced or some Clary Sage might help move things along if needed. These are just a few examples of how we can use natural essential oils with a birthing mother and my oils are always available for you to use during your birth if you would like.
No extra charge
A Rebozo is a long piece of woven fabric that can be used in various ways for comfort during labour and to encourage optimal baby positioning. I have taken special trainings in Rebozo techniques over the years and it often comes out at a birth and even prenatally as I show you how we can use it.
No extra charge
I have a birth stool that I offer to my clients (usually during the pushing stage) if they would like to use it. Pushing while sitting on a birth stool is similar to pushing on a toilet (which can also work quite well) except the lower height of the birth stool flexes your legs and helps your pelvis to be more open. The upright position also uses gravity to help with the downward movement of your baby. It can be an amazing and very effective tool!
Out of Town Clients
Extra distance fee
I have worked with, and welcome out of town clients. I usually don't travel more than one hour from my home in Beaumont but I am happy to have you come to my home for our prenatal appointments. I do charge a small additional distance fee if I am travelling more than 35 km for our prenatal appointments and early labour support.
*A receipt for doula services will be provided for insurance coverage. There are some insurance plans that will cover doula fees.*
